"Team Pearce" shirts sell quickly at Chick-fil-A's across North Texas

Fellow police officers and volunteers sold thousands of t-shirts to support wounded Fort Worth police Officer Matthew Pearce.

“Team Pearce” t-shirts sold out quickly at 15 Chick-fil-A restaurants. The proceeds will benefit Officer Pearce, who remains in critical condition at John Peter Smith Hospital.

Pearce was shot five times last Tuesday while chasing a fugitive and his son. Ed Mciver Sr. was killed in the return fire and his 21-year-old son, Ed Mciver Jr., is now facing several charges including attempted capital murder.

Last week Pearce suffered several health setbacks. He had to have surgery after one of the incisions on his abdomen ripped open during a coughing fit. He also developed a potential case of pneumonia on Friday.

Those who organized the fundraiser were hoping to sell 5,000 shirts. About 1,000 were pre-sold. The remaining 4,000 were available at the restaurants between 5 and 9 p.m.

Some of the restaurants will also donate a portion of the food sales for the day to the fund.
