Southlake police used a Taser on a suspected drunken driver at a Toys for Tots event Monday night.

It happened around 5:35 p.m. in Town Square where FOX 4, the Marines and volunteers were collecting toy donations.

Southlake Public Safety said officers who were helping with the event smelled “the overwhelming scent of alcohol” when talking to Patrick George Yadauga in the drop off zone.

They asked him to pull over but instead he drove his white Mercedes into the one-way drop off zone where a crowd of volunteers was gathered to collect toys, Southlake DPS said.

The officers caught up with Yadauga and ordered him to get out of the car. Police said he refused and began fighting. It took several officers, a Taser and pepper spray to get him into custody.

People at the Toys for Tots event witnessed the commotion. In one video of the arrest, Christmas music can be heard playing in the background. And to make things worse, police said Yadauga didn’t even bring a toy to donate.

He is now facing charges for suspicion of DWI, resisting arrest and assault on a public servant.
