Suspect in stolen sheriff's patrol SUV surrenders after chase, shooting
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - A man stole a Los Angeles County sheriff's patrol SUV in Sylmar Tuesday and led authorities on a chase during which he was injured in a deputy-involved shooting before surrendering in Reseda.
The man stole the SUV about 6:45 a.m. outside Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, where the deputy had gone on a report of a person causing a disturbance. Deputies followed the SUV to the area of White Oak Avenue and Kittridge Street, where the man was taken into custody about 7:20 a.m., the sheriff's department reported.
At some point during the chase, the motorist rammed a pursuing patrol vehicle, and there was a deputy-involved shooting that shattered a side window of the stolen vehicle, injuring the suspect, according to the sheriff's department.
Paramedics sent to the location where the chase ended took the man to a hospital for treatment of an injury described as not life-threatening. No other injuries were reported.
The man's name was not immediately released.
