SMU basketball moves up to No. 21 in new AP poll

SMU basketball moved up in the Top 25 after blowing out defending national champion UCONN on Saturday.

The Mustangs were ranked at No. 21 in this week's Associated Press poll, released Monday, up four spots from last week.

SMU shellacked the reigning champions 73-55 in primetime on national television Saturday. The Mustangs also beat in-state rival Houston 75-69 last Thursday.

SMU is 21-5 overall and 12-2 in the American Athletic Conference. The Mustangs are in first place in the AAC and control their own destiny for winning a conference title.

The Mustangs are looking to make their first NCAA tournament since the 1992-93 season. Most NCAA prediction brackets have SMU in the tournament with a mid-range seed of 7 or 8.

SMU plays once this week, hosting third place Temple at Moody Coliseum on Thursday evening.
