Sign damaged in crash, removed from I-20
A stretch of Interstate 20 in southeast Dallas is back open after crews removed a highway sign that was damaged in an early morning crash.
All four eastbound lanes of I-20 near Balch Springs were closed for several hours.
The crash happened just before 2 a.m. when the driver of a big rig hydroplaned. He hit the support structure for the overhead sign and his cab caught on fire.
He was taken to a local hospital, but is expected to be okay.
The overhead sign had to be removed because it was leaning dangerously forward. A crane was brought in to take it down.
It will be replaced at a later date.
