Semi plows into Irving fire truck working a traffic wreck

Three Irving firemen were injured early Sunday morning when a semi truck slammed into their fire truck. The fire truck was parked across EB lanes of 183 between Story Road and Belt Line while police worked a one vehicle wreck.

The impact caused the fire truck to spin and then roll over injuring the three firemen. The cab of the semi burned. The driver of the semi died in the crash.

Police say the driver in the original one vehicle wreck, Romano Ever Martinez, 35, ran from the scene. He was arrested a short time later on DWI charges. While officers were handing the fatal wreck - a third vehicle slammed into the back of an Irving police cruiser that was stopped on 183 blocking traffic The officer driving that police vehicle was outside the cruiser and was not hurt in the collision. The driver of the vehicle that hit the police car has been arrested on DWI charges according to police. She was identified as Laila Rahimi, 25.

The Irving Fire Department says one of the three firemen have been released from the hospital.

Police identify the dead truck driver as 55 year old Ilian Lalev.

Irving police continue the investigation.
