Rep. Scalise, officers honored at congressional football game

Members of the United States Congress took the field to play football four months after the congressional baseball shooting.

One team was made up of Democrats, Republicans and former NFL players. The other included members of the Capitol Hill police force. The police won.

During the football game a grateful Louisiana congressman was honored. Rep. Steve Scalise nearly died in the shooting at the Republican team’s June baseball practice.

He praised the two Capitol Hill police officers who saved his life and many others.

“The Capitol police do an incredible job of keeping us safe and we see that first hand… that heroism with Dave Bailey and Crystal Griner,” he said.

The game started in 2005 to raise money to support the families of Capitol police officers who died in the line of duty that year. Now military families are also included.
