A woman who tried to sell her gold wedding bands through OfferUp is now out of $800. Police said the woman who bought the jewelry gave her counterfeit money.
According to the Dallas Police Department, the victim was hoping to sell her rings because she needed money to pay for a funeral. She listed them for sale on the app and a woman contacted her about them.
The two women agreed to meet in a parking lot on Coit Road in north Dallas Nov. 13. The suspect gave the victim $800 in cash for the rings and it wasn’t until later that the victim discovered the money was fake, police said.
Fortunately, the victim was able to use OfferUp to give police a photo of the woman she met.
Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to call Det. Ed Lujan at 214-670-3548 or email him at edmundo.lujan@dpd.ci.dallas.texas.us.
