Police: Officers shoot, kill man who pointed gun at them

One man is dead after police said he pointed his gun at officers Friday night.

According to police, Garland officers responded to the 800 block of West Centerville Rd. at 11 p.m., after a person called 911 and said they wanted to kill themself. 

When police arrived on scene, 48-year-old Russ Allen McClellan was in a white pickup truck sitting in the driver's seat.

Officers attempted to talk with McClellan, but police said that's when he grabbed his weapon and pointed it at them.

Two Garland officers fired at McClellan, and the 48-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The department will review body camera footage and continue its investigation.

The officers who fired the shots will be placed on paid administrative leave, which is department policy.
