Police identify 2 dead in workplace murder-suicide
DALLAS - Police have identified the two people who died in a Dallas workplace murder-suicide Monday morning.
The gunman was 60-year-old Matthew Kempf. Police said he killed his supervisor, 48-year-old Lana McAree, and then turned the gun on himself.
The shooting happened around 10:45 a.m. in a high-rise office building near the Central Expressway and LBJ Freeway in north Dallas.
McAree was a mother of seven from Sulphur Springs who recently got married. An ex-husband of McAree's said she was a devoted worker and dedicated to her career in the health care field.
Kempf, according to online records, lived in Dallas and does not appear to have had a criminal record. He reportedly anticipated being fired from their company, but police have not publicly stated a motive.
Some workers on other floors who were among hundreds evacuated during the chaos said things at the building were calm and somewhat back to normal on Tuesday, yet somber.
