Pokemon Go players discover fire at new Haltom City school

Haltom City fire investigators believe someone intentionally set a fire in a dumpster next to an elementary school on Monday night.

The school under construction wasn't damaged, but three of four crates with new playground equipment were destroyed.

FOX 4 viewer Alberto De Leon said he was out playing Pokemon Go with friends when he smelled smoke. He then saw flames dancing dangerously close to the walls of the school.

“The fire even though were standing back really far away it was really hot all the way back there,” DeLeon said. "It was pretty big easily as tall as the school."

The flames reached above the treetops and brought people out of their homes on Monday night.

West Birdville Academy Elementary was torn down to make way for a new building on the same campus.

The investigation into the fire will continue, officials said.
