Plea deal possible for man suspected of killing The Colony clerk
THE COLONY, Texas - Less than a year after a mother of two was fatally shot during a robbery in The Colony, her family is feeling new grief. Prosecutors are discussing a possible plea deal for her accused killer.
Last June, 31-year-old Samira Siwakoti was killed while working at the Rapido convenience store on Main Street.
"Everyone's heart is broken," said her husband Raj Siwakoti.
Ten days after the shooting, 19-year-old Deon Kingston was arrested on charges of capital murder. But that charge was later downgraded to just murder.
The suspect's attorney said he turned down an initial plea deal offer of 55 years in prison.
"If someone does the crime they have to pay the price," said the victim's brother-in-law Bishnu Shiwakoti
The victim’s family wants the maximum penalty of 99 years and no parole
The district attorney's office said pleas are offered in most cases. But with both the prosecution and defense at a standstill, a spokesperson said the murder case is expected to go to trial.
