Part of Hwy 75 to be renamed after slain Richardson PD officer
The governor has signed a bill that authorizes renaming part of U.S. Highway 75 in Richardson as the Officer David Sherrard Memorial Highway.
House Bill 540 was created to honor the late Richardson police officer who was killed in the line of duty in 2018.
Officer David Sherrard was killed on Feb. 7, 2018. He was shot six seconds after entering an apartment to investigate a shooting. Sherrard was the first officer in the Richardson Police Department killed in the line of duty.

The governor was surrounded by Sherrard's family for the signing.
The authorization will not cost taxpayers any money as the new markers placed will be funded by private donations.
