Officer gives out turkeys to neighborhood that raised him
DALLAS, TX. - While many of us give thanks to the family that raised us this Thanksgiving, Officer Lamar Glass III is making sure he also thanks the neighborhood that raised him.
Ever since he started his job with the Dallas Police Department six years ago, he’s been patrolling the very same streets he grew up on.
“I stayed on Lomex, I stayed on Burr Ridge, I stayed on Urban Avenue, and I stayed on Symphony. So, I used to walk to this park every day,” he told FOX 4.
One day he had a conversation with a young boy that made a lasting impression.
“I had a kid one time that told me he had nothing to eat. And, it kind of, sometimes you try not to get too personal on the job, but that kind of struck me,” said Officer Glass.
With the help of donations from fellow officers, neighbors, and local businesses, he’s giving as many families in need as he can a Thanksgiving turkey.
“A lot of us are low income and we may have some chicken and dressing but turkeys are more expensive so a lot of people can't afford that. I think it's wonderful to be able to bless people to have a real Thanksgiving,” said community member Michelle Bell.
