Murder suspect killed elderly woman, then partied with friends in her home
The suspect arrested for killing a 71-year-old-widow reportedly hung out with his friends and smoked marijuana in the victim's home after the murder.
Norma Rae Kakacek's son found her body inside her home last Wednesday after friends reported she'd missed work.
The arrest affidavit for Michael McClendon, 45, details the gruesome nature of the crime. McClendon is charged with capital murder and is being held at the Dallas County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
According to an arrest affidavit, 71-year-old Kakacek was found dead inside a bathroom at her Far North Dallas home. She had been stabbed multiple times and her throat was cut. The back door was found open.
The warrant states after the murder, McClendon picked up Reginald Taylor in Kakacek's Lexus SUV and brought him and some other people back to Kakacek's home. McClendon reportedly told his friends he was housesitting for an aunt and told them the part of the house closest to the garage was off limits. Detectives say that's where Kakacek's body was later found by her son.
According to the arrest warrant, Taylor, who says he was unaware of the murder, took Kakacek's SUV to go buy some more marijuana. He returned to Kakacek's home but everyone was gone. Shortly after, a witness spotted the SUV and called 911. Taylor was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Police then got another tip from someone at a comfort suites motel saying McClendon was staying at the hotel. He was taken into custody. Police say they found blood on his shoes, keys and a safe belonging to Kakacek.
McClendon reportedly told investigators he was sorry for what happened but said he wasn’t at the home at the time of the crime. He then ended the interview. McClendon also told them, without being asked, scratches on his hands were from falling in a bush. Based on the totality of the evidence he was charged with capital murder.
Neighbors said off camera they're even more afraid now that it appears Kakacek was murdered by a stranger.
