Multi-vehicle crash in Plano kills 1, seriously injures another

A multi-vehicle traffic crash in Plano has left one deceased and another in the hospital.

At approximately 10 p.m. Monday, Plano police officers responded to the 400 block of northbound U.S. 75.

Investigators determined that a small vehicle was disabled in the left lane of the highway. A driver in a utility van stopped behind the stalled vehicle to help.

An 84-year-old male travelling in the left lane failed to see the vehicles stopped on the road.

He struck the rear of the van, which crossed over into the High-Occupancy Vehicle lane and struck the concrete divider barrier.

The man driving the Honda was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. His 77-year-old passenger, Esther Cubillos, died at the scene.

Neither the man nor the woman were wearing their seat belts.

No one else was injured in the crash.
