Man hospitalized after Dallas standoff, apartment fire
DALLAS - A man who barricaded himself inside an apartment and set fire to the kitchen Thursday morning was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
Dallas police said the person who lives in the apartment in the 6200 block of Bentwood Trail got out of the shower and was surprised by the suspect, who was acting erratically.
The tenant knows the suspect but was still frightened enough to run out and call 911, police said.
When responding officers arrived, police said the suspect barricaded himself inside the apartment and lit a fire in the kitchen. He also started throwing furniture out of a window.
Officers eventually convinced him to come out and took him to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire before it caused too much damage.
There were no reports of any injuries.
