Man and woman pulled from Fort Worth house fire

Two people were pulled out of their south Fort Worth home after it went up in flames early Wednesday morning.

The fire happened around 12:30 a.m. at a home on Stewart Street near Interstate 35 and East Rosedale Street. It is only one block from a fire station.

When firefighters arrived the front of the house was already engulfed in flames. They went inside to search and found a man and a woman in the back of the home.

Both were unconscious when they were rescued. They received CPR before being taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Two dogs also died in the fire.

"The first crew on the scene did not report hearing any smoke detectors," said Lt. Kyle Falkner, a spokesman for the Fort Worth Fire Department. "This is a good time to stress the importance of smoke detectors in the home, especially in the sleeping area. Check the batteries regularly."

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but as of now, officials say it does not appear suspicious.
