Lightning to blame for Plano house fire
Lightning started a fire at a home in Northeast Plano early Monday morning. A family of five was home at the time and escaped without injury.
The fire in the 3400 block of Bright Star Way spread very quickly. By the time fire fighters arrived the home was already engulfed in flames.
Officials said a 14-year-old boy happened to be awake, playing a video game with a friend online, when the fire started around 2 a.m. The teen smelled smoke, and proceeded to wake up his parents, and two younger sisters, all of whom were sleeping.
Everyone managed to get out of the house safely.
Eddie Rodriguez told FOX 4 his wife heard a lightning strike. The fire department confirmed lightning caused the fire.
The fire damaged the roof of the home. A large portion of it is now gone. There's also extensive damage to other parts of the house.
Rodriguez said he's just very grateful his family is safe, and that everything else can be replaced.
