Big changes could be coming for families in the Keller Independent School District.

A district committee is recommending the closure of four schools.

Keller ISD School Closures

What we know:

Keller ISD’s long-term planning committee is recommending the closure of four schools.

They include Bear Creek Intermediate, Parkwood Hill Intermediate, Trinity Meadows Intermediate, and Shady Grove Elementary.

Under the plan, some grades would also be moved. Elementary schools would be kindergarten through fifth grade. Middle school would be for sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, and high school would be for ninth through twelfth grades.

The change would impact more than 4,000 of the district’s 30,000 students.

What they're saying:

While the proposal has not yet been approved, district leaders said they need to make changes because enrollment is dropping. Over the past five years, more than 4,000 students have moved to other schools.

The changes are also expected to save the district $50 million in facility costs, as well as reduce transportation expenses.

What's next:

The plan still needs final approval from the Keller ISD Board of Trustees.

If approved, it would not take effect until the 2027-2028 school year.

District leaders said they would also work to ensure current employees still have a job within the district, despite the closures.
