A Kaufman County sheriff’s deputy risked his life to rescue a pickup truck driver.

The driver had crashed into the back of a semi Tuesday morning on Interstate 20 near Terrell. He was pinned inside his truck and flames were starting to spread.

Body camera video shows Deputy Conner Martin and several others working to pull the man from the burning truck. They were able to rescue him before the pickup became engulfed in flames.

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department thanked Deputy Martin for his bravery.

“Kaufman County is fortunate to have Deputy Martin serving this community. He has proven he has the heart of a servant and the bravery of a lion; we couldn't be any more proud that he is a Kaufman County Deputy Sheriff!” the department said on its Facebook page.

KCSO is asking the other heroes to come forward so they can be recognized as well.

“These individuals, without regard of their own safety were attempting to free the driver when Deputy Martin arrived; working together they eventually freed the driver. Without the cooperation of everyone involved, this could be a very different story,” the sheriff’s department said.

The truck’s driver was taken to the hospital because of a serious leg injury. There’s no update on his condition.
