K-9s, drones lead police to suspect following stolen vehicle pursuit in Trophy Club

A team of K-9 officers and multiple Dallas-Fort Worth-area police departments collaborated to locate a suspect who fled from a stolen vehicle following a police chase in Trophy Club.

Stolen Vehicle Spotted

What we know:

Trophy Club police officers responded to an alert from a Flock camera — a system that specializes in license plate recognition — around 9 p.m. Sunday. The camera detected a stolen Mercedes sedan entering Trophy Club.

Officers located the stolen vehicle, abandoned in the parking lot of The Vineyards Apartments at 1500 Plantation Oaks Drive.

Multiple agencies, including police from Roanoke, Southlake, Keller, Northlake, and Irving, assisted Trophy Club police in the search for a suspect. The Trophy Club K-9 Unit and Northlake drones were also deployed.

K-9 officers led police to a construction area near the apartments, where two people surrendered.

The suspect, Randy Veloz, was arrested. He's now charged with evading arrest and the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Inside the stolen vehicle, officers discovered suspected narcotics, stolen property, multiple forms of identification, and financial instruments. Additional charges related to these items are pending.

Police Chase

The backstory:

Before the Flock camera alert, Irving police had already been in pursuit of the stolen Mercedes. They lost the vehicle in Trophy Club, where Trophy Club police picked up the case.

With help from multiple agencies, officers worked together to locate the suspect who fled the scene.

What we don't know:

Police originally said two people were involved in the chase, but Veloz was the only person arrested.

It's not clear what role that second person had, if any.

It is also unclear when the vehicle was stolen.
