Hometown Hero: Boots to Heels

Attitudes & Attire has been inspiring women with self-worth, job skills  and a new outfit for years.

In 2013, the non-profit turned its attention to female veterans. Boot to Heels was created to help female vets make the transition from the uniform to the workforce. Wearing the uniform doesn't make room for being a woman. The 3-day course builds self-esteem, they mentor with other female veterans and they refine their interviewing skills and resume. The icing on the cake is either a dress, suit or pantsuit with jewelry, shoes and a handbag.

The veterans say what they've learned has prepared them for the civilian workforce. The reactions of the women are priceless and heart-warming when they see themselves. It's a new outlook inside and outside.

If you're a female veteran and want to enlist in Boot to Heels call Attitudes & Attire 214. 746.4218. Since 2013, 300 female veterans have graduated from this course. Each month a new seminar starts.
