HEB buys land for future grocery store in Oak Cliff

An upscale grocery store may be coming to Oak Cliff in Dallas but not anytime soon.

San Antonio-based HEB Grocery Stores bought land at Davis Street and Beckley Avenue, near the Bishop Arts District.

The company said it has no immediate plans for the land but if and when it does build there it will be an upscale Central Market.

Meanwhile, Amazon and Whole Foods have been given the clear to move ahead with their merger.

The Federal Trade Commission will not object to the $13.7 billion deal. And Whole Foods said shareholders voted for the deal that is shaking up the grocery industry.

The $700 billion a year grocery business is highly competitive and will be more so when the deal closes by the end of the year.
