Gov. Abbott gives city of Houston $50 million for Harvey cleanup

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott is giving Houston $50 million in state funds for Hurricane Harvey cleanup just days after clashing with the Democratic mayor and insisting the city already had "all the money" it needed.
 
Abbott met Friday with Mayor Sylvester Turner in Houston. He gave Turner a check and says they're on the same team as the tackle what may become the costliest disaster cleanup in U.S. history. 
 
Abbott has said the damage from Harvey could top $150 billion.
 
Abbott earlier this week accused Turner of sitting on hundreds of millions of local dollars and holding the state "hostage" by pushing a local tax increase. Houston officials said Abbott misunderstood the city's finances.
 
Harvey dumped more than 50 inches (127 centimeters) of rain and flooded at least 136,000 homes and other buildings in the Houston area.
