Girl, 15, charged with murder of newborn son found inside North Philadelphia dumpster

Jani Morris, 15, has been charged with the murder of her newborn son.

A teenage girl has been charged with the murder of her newborn son, who police say was found inside a dumpster in North Philadelphia on New Year's Eve.

Jani Morris, 15, has been charged as an adult.

She is also charged with endangering the welfare of a child and related offenses.

Officials say a 40-year-old woman, whose daughter is allegedly friends with Morris, alerted authorities after retrieving the baby from the dumpster on the 2700 block of North Judson Street around 10:30 p.m. on Monday.

The baby was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Officers responded to Morris' home, which police say is presumed to be location where the teenager gave birth. Inside the home were Morris and her mother.

Morris was placed under arrest and transported to Temple University Hospital for precautionary medical treatment.

No further details have been released at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
