Garland mom arrested for abandoning child near spa

A Garland mother was arrested after she left her child outside a Dallas spa and the girl slept in a dumpster on Saturday night.

The woman, Alicia Carroll, 28, called police about 9:45 a.m. Sunday and said she left her 7-year-old daughter with another person about 10 p.m. on Saturday. Carroll told police the person wouldn't return her child.

Police began an investigation and determined Carroll actually left King Spa in the 2100 block of Royal Lane without her child.

Police started a search and were able to locate the young girl with the help of a passerby who believed they had seen a young girl alone near the spa.

According to the affidavit, Carroll admitted on Saturday she "went to the parking lot and drank two glasses of Ciroc vodka and had become intoxicated."

Her daughter told police they were walking when all of a sudden they started running and Carroll told her to "get in a dumpster because the police were chasing them." She stated her mom "helped her get into a dumpster and then left her there" and she eventually fell asleep and spent the next 10 hours in the dumpster.

Carroll was later arrested and charged on Sunday with abandoning/endangering a child.

The child was taken to a hospital for an evaluation and later released to a family member.

Carroll remains jailed on a $25,000 bond at the Dallas County Jail.
