Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo Grand Champion Steer sells for $195,000

One of the big highlights during the 2019 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo was when a 7th grader from Abilene took home the top prize.

The Grand Champion Steer belonged to Aven Horn.

"Hard work does pay off, and you can't slack off,” Horn said. “You've got to work very hard."

At the Sale of Champions, her steer sold for $195,000, which will go toward her education.

And, she isn't the only winner in the family. Her brother, Jagger Horn, won Grand Champion Steer in 2016.

Their parents are proud.

"We get to work together and win together,” the Horn’s mother, Brek, said. “That there's not many families anywhere that get to do what we do. So we feel really blessed and really fortunate."

Coincidentally, the winning bid for both of those steers went to Hillwood Properties.

"We're very supportive of young folks who work hard like Aven, and we believe that education is key to the future of this state," said Mike Berry, with Hillwood Properties.
