Flower Mound phone scammer pretends to be policeman

A red light camera phone scammer has obtained money from numerous Flower Mound residents.

Flower Mound police said it has 19 documented cases of the man calling residents and posing as a police officer. He's gotten $4,300 from victims to date, police said.

The man identifies himself as Lt. Reid with Flower Mound police and tells the resident they have an overdue ticket from a red light camera. He tells the victims they should load money onto a Reloadit brand debit card to pay the fine. The suspect then takes the money and disappears.

Flower Mound officials said they will never call residents to solicit money via phone and the town doesn't even have red light cameras.

The suspect could face a third degree felony charge for impersonating a police officer.

Anyone with information or who may have been a victim is asked to call police at 972-539-0525.
