First-grader saves Mansfield family from burning home

A Mansfield family lost everything they have to a house fire, but still have each other thanks to the quick and heroic actions of a seven-year-old boy.

Damian Grimsley woke up around 2 A.M. Monday morning, to flames between him and his bedroom door.

The first-grader jumped out of bed, raced around them and into the hall. He ran to wake up his parents in their room, screaming and banging on the door.

His dad, Thomas,  tried to put the fire out himself but couldn't. He and his wife woke up their other two children, and all five made it out safely. The family says their house was gone about 15 minutes later.

Thomas, says he's amazed at how brave his son was. Their house was destroyed but the young man is walking a little taller now.

Fire investigators have not ruled on a cause, but Thomas tell FOX 4 there was a power strip near the foot of the bed which he thinks may have caught the boy's blanket on fire.
