About 80 firefighters battled a stubborn fire at a vacant school in southeast Dallas overnight.

Dallas Fire-Recue officials said the building behind Faith Kingdom Church on Lake June Road caught fire around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

A man who lives nearby rushed to see if anyone was inside.

“I went outside to smoke when I seen the orange flames or orange lights coming from behind the house. I waited a couple minutes before I realized that the ambulance wasn’t coming,” Jose Vielma said. “I’m concerned there’s some homeless in there and when I arrived the corner of the building, the ceiling had already collapsed.”

Officials said there was no one inside the building at the time and no one was hurt.

It’s not yet clear how the fire started.
