The family of the man who died while being restrained by deputies in the lobby of the Lew Sterrett Jail wants the names of the officers involved to be publicly released.

Joseph Hutcheson's wife was joined by activist and minister Rev. Jeff Hood during a press conference Tuesday outside the jail.

“The public has a right to know these people’s names,” Nicole Hutcheson said on Tuesday morning.

Surveillance video from Aug. 1 shows an anxious Hutcheson walking into the building. He starts to pace back and forth and deputies step in to calm him down.

He's eventually handcuffed and taken to the floor. Moments later, Hutcheson was dead.

“The people of Dallas County have a right to know who they’re encountering when they go into this lobby,” Rev. Hood said.

Joseph Hutcheson’s family said he was troubled and was asking for help when he came inside the jail complex.

The medical examiner ruled Hutcheson died from a combination of drugs, heart disease, and stress from the altercation.
