Family hurt, suspect killed in Denton chase crash

A woman and her young daughter are recovering in the hospital after the driver of a stolen car slammed into their truck during a police chase. The suspect did not survive the crash.

The chase happened Wednesday night in Denton. Officers using a license plate scanner spotted an orange Pontiac that was reported stolen.

They tried to pull the car over. The driver initially stopped the car and a passenger got out, but then the driver took off.

That driver then struck a pickup truck at the intersection of East McKinney Street and Audra Lane.

The pickup truck was carrying a woman, who was driving, an adult passenger and a 7-year-old girl. They were taken by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Pontiac was flown to a Plano hospital, but did not survive.

Denton police said officers had backed off chasing the stolen car before the suspect hit the truck.
