Escaped Dallas County inmate recaptured

The inmate who jumped out of a van while on the way to the Dallas County jail earlier this week is back in custody.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office said 25-year-old Justin Gonzalez was arrested Thursday night at an apartment complex near Audelia Road and Walnut Street.

Investigators reportedly interviewed Gonzalez’s friends and family members. They got a tip about the car he was driving and spotted it at the complex. The investigators waited for him to come out to the car and arrested him.

Gonzalez escaped Monday morning while being transported from the Garland city jail to the Dallas County jail. He was handcuffed to another inmate but somehow managed to get free, open the back door of the van and jump out.

He was in custody for the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Now he’s facing additional charges for escaping while under arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

He also has a criminal past that includes weapons and drug charges.

His bond was set at $50,000 for each new charge.
