DPD Chief: Drug dealers giving out K2 to homeless in downtown Dallas
The Dallas police chief said Monday drug dealers are giving out a highly addictive drug to homeless people downtown in hopes of getting them addicted.
Chief David Brown said his officers have witnessed the giveaways of synthetic marijuana first-hand and now have undercover operations underway to catch the dealers.
The drug, often sold under the name K2, can cause violent and psychotic behavior.
The chief said it is making pan handlers in downtown Dallas more aggressive and they've received a spike in calls about people passed out on downtown streets.
“It’s no secret that some of our homeless are mentally ill or addicted to alcohol,” said Chief Brown. “Drug dealers are taking advantage of that as a population they may want to make money off of. Shame on them,”
Chief Brown said K2 is an inexpensive but very dangerous drug.
There have been more than 200 ambulance runs in recent weeks for people passed out in Dallas after taking K2.
