Dallas police officer hit in the leg, suspect killed in shootout

A Dallas police officer was treated at the hospital after being shot in the line of duty.

The Dallas Police Department said it happened around 5:30 a.m. Friday as the officer was responding to a call about men with guns near Military Parkway and Jim Miller Road, which is in the Pleasant Grove area.

Sources told FOX 4 he was working in the area as part of an initiative to target high crime neighborhoods.

Police said the officer exchanged gunfire with at least one of the two armed suspects. He was shot in the leg and one of the suspects was killed.

The injured officer was taken to Baylor Hospital by other officers. The police department said he was treated, released and is now at home recovering.

The second suspect tried to flee but other officers quickly caught him and took him into custody.

Police said both of the suspects’ weapons were recovered as part of the ongoing investigation.
