Vigil planned for Dallas officer killed in Hunt County motorcycle crash
DALLAS - The Dallas Police Department will hold a candlelight vigil on Friday to honor a fallen officer killed in the line of duty.
The backstory:
Officer Gabriel Bixby was involved in a fatal accident on Jan. 7 while on his way to work.
According to state troopers, the crash happened on State Highway 276 in Hunt County.
Officer Gabriel Bixby was reportedly on his motorcycle and collided with the driver of a Honda Accord that turned in front of him.
The 29-year-old officer was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officer Bixby served the Dallas Police Department for six years and was assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division.
He leaves behind a wife and children, according to his social media.

"Anytime we lose an officer, it’s heartbreaking. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Officer Bixby, along with the Northeast Patrol Division. Thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time," said interim Chief Michael Igo.

Flowers and mementos are being placed near a cruiser parked outside the Northeast Patrol Division in his honor.
The vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the same location.
Officer Bixby’s funeral will be held on Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at Lakepointe Church in Rowlett.
