Dallas Bishop T.D. Jakes to be part of Aretha Franklin's funeral

Aretha Franklin fans from around the world are in Detroit to pay their respects for the Queen of Soul.

Her body lies in repose at the Charles Wright Museum of African American History. The lavish funeral will feature tributes from Hollywood stars and some notable North Texans.

Bishop T.D. Jakes of The Potter’s House megachurch in Dallas is a selected speaker. He is traveling, but told FOX 4 by phone that his role is still being finalized.

"Any role that I play is an honor. I considered her a friend,” the Dallas bishop said. “I was honored that the family thought enough of me to ask me to participate. I'm going to go up there and do my best at whatever they need done."

The bishop shared fond memories, including sitting behind Franklin as she sang at former President Barack Obama's inauguration.

“She always had such class and dignity,” Jakes said. “She never liked singing in cold weather. It was really cold out there that day, but she is Aretha Franklin. And she's in a class all by herself."

Minnie's Food Pantry Founder Cheryl Jackson also received a personal invitation. The North Texan will also conduct interview for faith-based ‘The Word Network.’

“My heart just sinks because everybody didn't get that invite,” Jackson said. “When I tell you the who's who of Hollywood is coming out, as they should, to pay their respects to Aretha Franklin. I'm just honored to be in the room. I really am."

People who own pink Cadillacs have coordinated to have their vehicles be a part of the funeral procession.  During the service, more than 130 pink Cadillacs from across the country will line Detroit streets as a theme from Franklin's 1985 hit, 'Freeway of Love.'
