Dallas Animal Services hosts free adoptions for Black Friday weekend
A national pet adoption promotion is sweeping the country and helping clear out the often overcrowded Dallas Animal Services Shelter.
It’s a Black Friday weekend deal with a twist; the gift you love, can love you back.
Dubbed “Home for the Pawlidayz” North Shore Animal League America and Zappos for Good joined forces to sponsor free adoptions, an offer that can save hundreds of dollars on spay/ neuter surgiers, vaccination and microchipping.
It’s a deal motivating people like Tabitha Taylor to take the first stop of commitment.
“Actually, I'm adopted. I know that background effect. So I feel like, why not spread the love?” she said.
Taylor visited the DAS Adoption Center at PetSmart on Coit and Campbell and fell in love with the puppy dog eyes. The event is so successful that it is clearing out Dallas Animal Services, and that’s a real feat because the shelter has been faced with overcrowding after an aggressive push to pick up loose dogs.
“Just a couple of weeks ago over capacity 112% capacity,” said DAS Spokeswoman Gabbie Vannini, “We were having dogs doubled up no place to put dogs when officers brought them.”
Now shelter capacity is down to about 60%. A whopping 75 dogs were adopted from Dallas on Black Friday.
”Everyone wins. He gets a new home, we get a new family member.” Said Taylor.
