Burleson church mourns loss of mother, daughter killed in wreck

Members of a Burleson church community are mourning and praying after a crash killed a mother and her daughter over the weekend.

Lori and Keith Quan were heading to drop off their two kids on Sunday at Cana Baptist Church in Burleson. Just as they were about to turn in to the parking lot, tragedy struck.

The father, Keith Quan, remains at JPS Hospital in critical but stable condition. His 3-year-old daughter, the only other survivor of the crash, is physically okay but no doubt traumatized by the incident.

Pieces of shattered glass and red spray paint remain as a subtle reminder of the violent crash that wiped out half of a family Sunday afternoon.

Kevin Jordan is the pastor of Cana Baptist Church in Burleson. He says Keith and Lori Quan were bringing their two daughters to the children's ministry when the crash happened.

“People saw what happened,” the pastor said. “Our gym has a lot of windows, and a lot of kids were there.

Several members of the church ran out to help.

“They were on the scene first, working to help get people out,” Jordan said.

DPS says the Quans were headed southbound on busy Renfro Road in their minivan around 6 p.m. They stopped to turn left into the church parking lot DPS says the driver of a pickup, who admitted he was looking down, hit the van and was then struck by another truck.

The impact killed 36-year-old Lori and 7-year-old Hannah. Keith and the couple's 3-year-old daughter, Claire, were taken to the hospital.

Back at the church, dozens of people showed up for a special service for the family Wednesday night to officer support for the Quans.

“They believed in Christ so we’re hopeful about their salvation and about their resurrection to come,” Jordan said. “So we know we'll see them again, and we will miss them incredibly.”

Claire is staying with extended family who came in from out of town.

The driver who rear-ended the Quans’ minivan has not been charged, but DPS says that could change in light of the circumstances.
