Blue Line extension opens, other transit changes go into effect Monday
DALLAS - Dallas Area Rapid Transit opened two new Blue Line stations in Dallas on Monday.
The expansion is being called the education corridor because it links the University of North Texas at Dallas to Downtown Dallas. Paul Quinn College and Cedar Valley College are also in the area and will benefit.
Passengers say they’re excited about the growth that could come as a result of DART’s expansion.
“It’s awesome. I’ve been waiting for this,” said Keiondria Lawson. “This gives you the opportunity to live in a suburb and still work downtown or work in any other area, so it’s a great resource.”
Dallas City Council member Erik Williams said there are plans to build a new recreation and aquatics center near the new Camp Wisdom Station.
The Trinity Railway Express is also improving its service to meet the growing demand. Trains will run every 30 minutes during the morning and evening rush hours between Downtown Dallas and Fort Worth. Friday and Saturday hours will be extended to late night and Saturday trains will start running earlier.
And the Dallas Streetcar will now start running at 5:30 a.m. leaving Union Station for Oak Cliff. It will run every 20 minutes until midnight. The service used to start at 9:30 a.m.
