Nearly 40 people were forced from their apartments during a fire in the Fort Worth suburb of North Richland Hills.

The fire started just before 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Grayson Ridge Apartments on Northeast Loop 820. More than a dozen apartments were damaged in the three-story building.

The cause of the fire is still unknown but firefighters said it seemed to have originated between floors.

One firefighter fell from the third floor to the second floor and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

American Red Cross workers plan to help more 40 displaced residents. They set up a service center in the apartment leasing office and brought snacks, toiletries and recovery assistance to the homeless families.
