Former disgraced NY Congressman Anthony Weiner was having a sexual, online relationship with a 15-year-old girl for several months, reported DailyMail.com. Based on a string of texts, the website alleges Weiner was aware of the teen's age.
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner, Democrat of New York, was having online sexual communications with a 15-year-old girl for several months, DailyMail.com reported exclusively. The former lawmaker told Fox 5 that he believes he is a victim of a hoax although he did not specifically deny communicating with the teen.
DailyMail.com reported that the NYPD Special Victims Unit launched a probe into the allegations, but the police department told Fox 5 News that is not true and that authorities had not received a formal complaint.
The explicit exchanges purportedly began last January while the girl was a high school sophomore, DailyMile.com reported. According to the teen, Weiner, 51, asked her to undress and encouraged her to touch herself and say his name over video chat.
Weiner did not deny to DailyMail.com exchanging "flirtatious" messages with the teen. Based on the exchanges, Weiner allegedly knew she was only 15 years old.
The girl and her father reportedly do not want to press charge because she believed the relationship with Weiner was consensual.
Fox 5's Sharon Crowley invited Weiner to respond on camera, but he declined and emailed a statement instead. In the statement, Weiner said: "I have repeatedly demonstrated terrible judgement about the people I have communicated with online and the things I have sent. I am filled with regret and heartbroken for those I have hurt. While I have provided the Daily Mail with information showing that I have likely been the subject of a hoax, I have no one to blame but me for putting myself in this position. I am sorry."
Weiner sent Fox 5 a letter that is supposed to have been sent from the teenager claiming she lied. But Fox 5 has not verified its authenticity.
DailyMail.com stands by the truth of the story and said this is not a hoax.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo told reporters that if the reports are true, Weiner's behavior could be criminal.
"It is sick and frankly I've heard enough about Anthony Weiner and I think that goes for all New Yorkers," Cuomo said.
Huma Abedin, a longtime aide to Hillary Rodham Clinton, separated from Weiner earlier this year after sexually explicit photos surfaced of Weiner that he had sent to another woman. In one of the photos, Weiner is holding their 3-year-old son.
