A 19-year-old man was shot and killed at Pittman Park in Everman on Wednesday night.

The Everman Police Department is still investigating the events that led up to Kelvin Hayes’ death. Officers found him surrounded by a large crowd of people on the basketball court around 9:30 p.m.

Hayes’ family said the teen was preparing attend Tyler Junior College in the upcoming weeks.

The police department said several agencies were called in after the shooting to help control the crowd. The Texas Rangers and the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office are also helping with the investigation.

“This is still a very active investigation and in the best interest of seeking justice for Kelvin Hayes and his family, we are only able to release certain information,” Everman PD said. “Our hearts go out to his family and friends.”
