Volunteers gather for Thanksgiving 'Stuffing' event

Hearts are full this time of year and thanks to some volunteers so are grocery bags for some families in Fort Worth.

The bags stuffed with canned goods and food will be delivered to the families of students in the Communities in Schools of Greater Tarrant County program.

The food will help families with holiday meal preparation, including mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, corn, green beans, cereal and granola bars.

The program provides support all year because poverty and hunger don't take breaks. But they make an extra effort this time of year.

“We serve at-risk children in our local schools and kids greatly in need of support in order to be academically successful. So a lot of kids we serve don’t have adequate supplies in their homes and we want to help that over the holidays and give the family extra support,” said Lindsey Garner, the CEO of Communities in Schools of Greater Tarrant County.

The group plans to give out another 500 food bags to families over the Christmas break.

The food was donated by generous individuals and grocery stores in Tarrant County.
