Habitat for Humanity building 13 homes in one neighborhood
DALLAS - Work began early Tuesday morning on more than a dozen homes in South Dallas. It’s all part of Habitat for Humanity’s ‘Blitz Build.’
The organization will build 13 homes this week in the Joppa neighborhood. About 2,000 volunteers from local companies are working with the new homeowners.
“Habitat is really about building community. It’s not just about building homes. So one thing that we recently did was broke the digital divide. We’ve included Wi-Fi in community centers and churches throughout the neighborhood so kids to the area and use computers so they can do homework after school. Or people if they are looking for jobs, they can come in and apply for jobs,” said Reese Collins, Habitat for Humanity’s director of neighborhood empowerment.
Habitat has built or repaired 150 homes in the neighborhood.
The five-day build wraps up Saturday afternoon with a last nail ceremony.
