Dallas ISD showcasing more than 60 school options

The Dallas Independent School District is holding a one-stop event for families who might want to choose a specialty school for their children.

Discover DISD is happening this Saturday in Downtown Dallas. Superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa stopped by Good Day to talk about more than 60 schools that will be showcased at the event.

They offer students a range of options for specialized education like focusing on STEAM or performing arts. Some schools also offer two-way dual language classes, a single-gender setting or even Montessori or collegiate learning.

“It’s a best fit school, whatever the families are looking for whether it’s a collegiate academy where you can get your associate’s degree while you’re still in high school or whether you want to focus on the arts or want to focus on whatever,” Hinojosa said.

Hinojosa said for most parents their neighborhood school is the best option. But if it’s not, he wants parents to be able to look within the district rather than turning to a charter school or private school.

At Discover DISD, all the options will be in one location so parents can look at them all together. It will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fashion Industry Gallery on Ross. It's a free event with free parking.
