The Dallas Stars will honor the five Dallas officers killed in July’s police ambush with badge stickers on their helmets.

The Stars will wear the stickers during Thursday night’s 2016-17 season opener at the American Airlines Center vs the Anaheim Ducks. Each player will wear one of five badge stickers with the name of a fallen officer.

The families of fallen DPD Sgt. Michael Smith and DART Ofc. Brent Thompson will participate in a ceremonial puck drop before the game at center ice.

Stars legend Mike Modano tweeted he liked the gesture by his former team and also knocked the NFL for its restrictions on what the Cowboys wanted to do to honor the officers.

“Take note @NFL the @DallasStars take care of their own. #DPD,” Modano tweeted.

The Cowboys created “Arm in Arm” helmet decals and wore them during training camp. But the NFL prohibited the team from wearing them during preseason and regular season games.
