No more bleacher seats for SMU students at football games.
The school’s athletic department announced a massive party deck will be the new student section inside Ford Stadium for the upcoming season.
Renderings of the party deck show a multi-level party platform that will be built in the north end zone of the Mustangs’ stadium. It features awnings for shade, bar-height table tops and umbrellas along with plenty of areas for students to stand and watch the game.
The school is ripping out nearly four sections of lower bowl seating to build the new student area.
SMU officials said the area is for students only and no other ticket holders will be allowed onto the decks.
The athletic department is asking students to help name the new student section in a contest on Instagram.
The Mustangs went 7-6 in 2017 and went to their first bowl game in half a decade. SMU’s first home game is a nationally televised game on Sept. 7 against crosstown rival TCU.
