A proud high school football coach will be watching two former players in the Super Bowl.

Former Plano Senior High School running back Rex Burkhead and offensive lineman Joseph Noteboom were stars for the Wildcats. They were five years apart in school.

Now Burkhead is a big part of the New England Patriots offense and Noteboom is ready to fill in when the Los Angeles Rams need him.

Plano Senior High football coach Jaydon McCullough said he’s not surprised to see either of his former players in the Super Bowl.

“The greatest way to be a leader is to basically model the behavior that you expect. And those two guys, every day, made such a positive impact on everybody that was around them. It was just amazing. I learned so much from them, both of them. So to say the least, this is going to be exciting,” Coach McCullough said.

Burkhead and Noteboom are not the first Plano Senior graduates to make it to the Super Bowl. That honor went to former Rams defensive back Pat Thomas.

Thomas played in Super Bowl XIV in 1980 when Los Angeles lost to Pittsburgh.
